The "contradiction" in the Bible aren't contradictions, for the Bible does not reflect the "perfectly consistent mind of God," but the diversity of time and place of the writers. Read about a good example here.
Recently, I posted a comment in a Facebook group, fully expecting a barrage of reactions. Among all the responses, one particularly stood out?it broke my heart because it showed how many people are blind to certain truths. This person raised a question about "contradictions" in the Bible. I could see their confusion, and I must admit, understanding everything written in the Bible can be challenging. With so many voices in the world, it's easy to feel overwhelmed.
To avoid this confusion, it's essential to spend more time in the Word and ask the Holy Spirit for clarity. Different people understand things in various ways, much like how God speaks to each of us differently.
I ask you to keep an open mind as I share my perspective, which has helped me find clarity. I also encourage you to pray about it because I've learned never to say, "This is what God says," but rather, "This is what I understand." For example, saying "Jesus loves you" is a fact, not just my opinion.
Romans 10: 13 - "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Matthew 7:21 - "Not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord", will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."
Acts 2: 39 - ...for all who the Lord our God will call." Some say "chooses".
Before I continue, remember that translations are just that. People have different ideas and use different words to express something, and you also need to always take the whole chapter into consideration. People tend to open the Bible, read a verse and then form an opinion. It is important to read to understand and ask the guidance of the Spirit to guide you. That is why reading the word often is so important. God speaks to us through His word, and you will find many times what you read are then confirmed by someone else.
Romans 10:13 - "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
God calls us all, it is for us to listen and say "Yes". He promised your salvation if you act upon the call, repent from your ways and believe His Son died on the cross for your sins and was raised, sitting on the right hand of God. This is as simple as it can get.
Matthew 7:21 - "Not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord", will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."
James 2:14 begins a discussion of faith without works and includes a vivid point by James that even the demons believe and tremble James 2:19. The ?faith? of demons is useless, even though they tremble at what they know to be true. People who say they ?believe? in God while showing no evidence of faith have a level of ?belief? similar to that of demons.
Many times people hear the word of God, they belief but nothing changes in their lives. There are no relationship. They just continue with their lives as if nothing has happened. It is like meeting a new person. You like the person a lot and for that day you feel like you are best buddies, but the moment you go home, all is forgotten. No contact with that person, no relationship being build to really understand who the person really is. Relationship is a deep understanding of who someone is. It changes what you belief about someone and sometimes, you even become like that person. That is why we as parents always say to our kids to hang out with good people, because you become who you attach yourself too. So, you can say you are a believer of Christ, but if you do not change and repent from your old life and follow His instructions, then you are fooling yourself. You have to do the will of the Father, and that is to have a fruitful life, believing and mimicking Jesus.
Acts 2: 39 - ...for all who the Lord our God will call." Some say "chooses".
Like I said before. We need to read the Bible in context, so let's take a deeper look at this verse:
36?Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.?
37When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ?Brothers, what shall we do??
38Peter replied, ?Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off?for all whom the Lord our God will call.?
Before the world came into existence, God already knew He would create you and me. He had plans for each of us, but in His righteousness, He granted us free will. We aren't just pawns on a chessboard; God desires that we choose Him willingly. Even those who do not choose Him are ultimately used for His glory. Consider the example of Pharaoh. The Bible states in Exodus 9:12, "And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh." This was done to reveal His glory and majesty to His people.
So, you can see that those that hear the good news, accept Jesus, and truly become followers of Christ is CALLED.
So how do you know you are truly a child of God and is called?
Your life shows that:
It is really very simple. Lay down your life. Stop being self-centered. It is not about you. Know that you do not know it all. Just accept Him and allow to be changed. It is really amazing to see a black heart like mine being renewed daily. It does not matter what you have done in your past. Seek Jesus and see how He changes you. From lost to saved.
