Jesus sat in Peter?s boat and preached to a large crowd. When He finished, He told Peter,
?Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch? (Luke 5:4)
And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless, at thy word, I will let down the net. Luke 5:5
When I read this devotion today, I realized that we (Christians) also call Jesus Master, but do we know what a Master is? There are many different definitions but to me, it means leader, someone of a higher power. When such a person gives instructions, those under them obey and follow through on the instructions.
But read the verse again. Jesus told Peter to let down the nets. Nets are plural.

Now, look at what Peter did. He only cast one net. Did he not hear what Jesus said? Did he question the authority? We would never know, but clearly not obeying have consequences. Yes, you might say, he did obey, at least partially. Is there even something like partial disobedience? Think about situations in your own life. When did you obey Jesus partially and you actually were ok with that. Let me tell you, to partially obey Jesus is the same as not obeying Him at all. If you partially obey, you basically put your own selfish desires above the instructions He has given. Let me explain it in another way. You have to make a toasted ham and cheese. You slice the bread, add the ham...and that?s it. Did you make the toasted ham and cheese or did you just do it partially? Will you get a high five from the person that instructed you to make the sandwich? No, to do partially means nothing.
Notice what happened to the net because of Peter's disobedience.
?They caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking? Luke 5:6
Partial disobedience that is actually full disobedience can take away the blessing that was intended for you. He could have had ?nets full of fish? that they could have sold and that would have kept them for days on end, but now they sit with a partial blessing.
?
Let's not partially obey! Let's obey completely not just to be blessed, but to be a blessing to others.
