In Matthew 7:21 Jesus says: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

How often do you think about God's will for your life? Especially if you are a Christian?

Why do we think about that?

First, because we want to please God. We want Him to say: "Well done my child."

Secondly, we know that if we move in the will of God, we will have peace in our hearts. I will say that again. We will have peace in our hearts. We will not have a fabulous life on earth, but the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hears and minds through Jesus Christ.

Before we can try to understand the will of God we first need to understand the purpose we as human beings have. The Bible reveals that we have to be in relationship with Him, and with each other. Jesus made it clear that the greatest commandment of all is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and it does not stop there...love your neighbor as yourself. So our purpose in life is to love God and then love others.

When we keep that in mind we can start searching and digging a bit deeper. The Bible states that we need wisdom to seek and discern God's will. Why? Because there will be times in our life when things will happen and we will question it. And that is where the important wisdom and understanding is needed. Not everything that happens in this world or our lives is the direct will of God. We are living in a broken world and the Bible said that our fight is not against flesh but against all the evil and darkness of this world, so we will need to make wise choices, when things do happen in our lives.

So what is God's will? We can summarize it into two categories. God's revealed will that has already been made know to His people and this includes moral will of what is right and true. We will find that in Matthew 7:21. (the text above) Here it clearly shows us that the will of God is for us to be obedient. To take it a bit further. Paul said in Thessalonians: "It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality" or "give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Also, Peter said: "For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people."

The other side of God's Will is the mystery or the hidden will of God. Here we need to understand that God's will refers to His sovereign control over the universe. He knows the future and that makes him sovereign. We cannot see the whole picture, but thankfully He does.

The last point is all about our will? Most of the time, or actually it is always our own will that brings us into trouble. We tend to always want things our way. We want to be in control and if we are not we start to sin, by getting angry, jealous, frustrated and the list goes on. Our own will is connected to selfishness. It starts to become all about what I can get out of it and not about what is good for others. We break God's will for our lives as He made it clear that we should love one another and if we really do love, our own desires to be in control and have our way will fall.

It is not about us...the sooner we realize that...the sooner you will be free...
