EPHESIANS : 22 - 33
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. ?Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.? This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
We are living in a society where women's minds and feelings are controlled by the media and images of what a woman should look like on a daily basis. Lots of the ideas are driving a wall between married couples because wives no longer believe in the biblical aspect of submission. Media tells them submission means you are weak, not worthy and that you have to take your place in this world and stand up like a "man". It is your right, they will say! This my dear friend is a lie from Satan. It might seem the truth and it might look like it is a way in protecting yourself, but believe me that road leads to destruction.
Everything in the word of God is truth, and it is there for a reason, and the reason is to protect you and your marriage.
Let's look at what submission really means
- To support your husband in decisions that he is making on behalf of the family.
- To support him in his work. Not to complain because he needs to work hard sometimes.
- To be respectful towards him.
- To be pure, meaning holy, loving, caring, not full of yourself
- To be gentle in the spirit. Not shouting, screaming and arguing about things all the time.
- To remain calm in all situations.
- To be quiet. Not meaning you cannot talk, but to think before you say something. Scripture tells us that silence can help us avoid sinning, gain respect, and is deemed wise and intelligent.
- To practice self-control
It is not a power game of who is more important, but it is a give-and-take relationship.
