In today?s post I want to cover something that is very dear to my heart. Going to church. Yes, there was a time in my life when I said:
?I do not need to go to church, I can watch on my TV.? And I truly believe that it was ok.
All of this is just excuses. People have an improper understanding of what it means to attend church. Sadly many churches are putting pressure on people or even making them feel guilty for not attending, and therefore I want you to understand that God?s love for His children is not based on the number of times they attend a sermon at church.
It is all about relationships
Now, you also need to understand that it is all about a relationship you have with God. The deeper your understanding grows of who God is and what He has done for you, the more you will have a desire to worship corporately. (Ephesians 5:19-20), to worship with other Christians (1 Thessalonians 5:11) and to listen to God?s word (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Going to church is not about you, the preacher or the people around you. It is about God. It is about giving yourself to worshipping Him and being of service to others around you.
Stop the excuses
In the past, I too was one of those people that did not want to go to church because the preacher was boring, or the music too loud, or the church too cold, too hot, and the excuses can go on and on. My friend, run?those thoughts are not from God. The enemy wants to keep you away from God and will find every single excuse that seems good, but it is actually the opposite.
Going to church is humbling yourself, taking the focus of what you want and desire to what God desires and how you can be of service to those around you.
Did you know?
Did you know that God uses His people to bring others closer to Him or to give others hope, financial help and so forth? As you go to church, you get to know people after the sermon. You have some coffee together. You become a family, and guess what? When you are in trouble, or need help you will have a family that is there for you. Closer than your own blood-family will ever be, because at Church you are with your brothers and sisters in Christ and we have one Father that binds us all.
Nobody is perfect!
Are we all perfect at Church? No, only God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are perfect, but we are changed daily to become Holy just like Him. The more time we spend in the Word, the more time we sacrifice to be at church, the closer we grow to the Father, and our relationships with one another deepens.
One last point. Going to church is going to help you ?get out of this world? meaning, you will have friends that are more true than those that are in the world. I am saying more true because you might say that people in church are the worst of the bunch. Yes, maybe, but you will never know because you need to be there, build a relationship with a few before you can use that excuse.
??My friend, we are living in a broken world. Do not become broken too, go to church for the right reasons and see how the Holy Spirit will heal you and set you free from what binds you in this world.
